The EU has now approved the trade agreement with the Mercosur countries in South America after more than 25 years of negotiations. The agreement covers Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay and opens up for increased trade between the EU and the region.

It is an agreement that pleases Dansk Metal, which in a press release states that it "rejoices" over the agreement, which the union emphasizes that the agreement comes at a time when Europe needs to strengthen its international relations.

- Denmark and Europe need more, good friends in the world - not least with the great geopolitical uncertainty. A trade agreement with the countries in South America has been high on our wish list for many years. Therefore, it is a really good day for Denmark, for Danish companies and for Dansk Metal, says Johan Moesgaard Andersen, EU manager at Dansk Metal,

The agreement means, among other things, that tariffs will be removed on more than 91 percent. of the goods the EU exports to Mercosur, and it is expected to increase the EU's annual exports to the region by 39 percent. The agreement has met with resistance from several EU countries, including France, who have pointed out the consequences for European agriculture. According to Dansk Metal, however, considerations for industry and the overall economy should weigh more heavily. Dansk Metal believes that the agreement could have an impact on Danish industrial companies, which will gain better access to markets in South America.

- Denmark has competitive companies and skilled employees. It could be a huge gain for Denmark that we can now send more wind turbines, more medicine and more machines across the Atlantic. It is very much in line with jobs, activity and development in Production Denmark, so it is certainly positive from a Danish perspective, says Johan Moesgaard Andersen.
