The crisis-stricken Minister of Climate, Energy and Utilities Lars Aagaard (M) now also receives the support of Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen (S), after his party chairman, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, declared his support earlier Tuesday.
- I have full confidence in the Minister of Climate, says the Prime Minister at a short press conference after question time in the Folketingsalen.
- There is a discussion in the Folketing, which has been called for consultation tomorrow (Wednesday, ed.), and a statement has been made, and then I have no further comment on it.
However, that does not stop the press, which continues to inquire into the matter, where a united opposition is strongly dissatisfied that the minister, in their view, has withheld important knowledge about a delayed electricity grid prior to political negotiations on the subject. Mette Frederiksen is asked whether it is important to her that Lars Aagaard continues as Minister of Climate.
- Of course it is important to me that the government is not only allowed to continue its work, but also that the ministers do, she says.
The Prime Minister says several times that the press "puts premises" into the questions when phrases such as "withholding information" and "misleading" are used about the Climate Minister. But she does not answer what kind of premise that is.
- I am not going to enter into those discussions. The minister has made a statement, which is a consultation tomorrow, and then the Folketing is allowed to ask questions.
The case began when the media Zetland was able to describe that a press release from Energinet was withdrawn after dialogue with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Utilities. The press release described that there were massive delays on the electricity grid. The specific press release and assessment were not delivered to the public or the parties outside the government. Lars Aagaard has regretted the matter.
All opposition parties are now deeply critical of the climate minister. Their trust has reached zero, and they say that an extraordinarily good explanation of the consultation must be given on Wednesday, if they are not to declare their lack of confidence in Lars Aagaard.
A counting process is currently underway in both the opposition and the government to form an overview of whether Lars Aagaard can be overthrown as minister or remain in office. The independents are particularly crucial here, and several are therefore looking in the direction of Mike Fonseca, whose position is still unclear.
