The government proposes to invest over half a billion DKK in vocational education, including turning school dormitories into modern vocational colleges to increase the well-being and retention of students. 3F's federal secretary Søren Heisel views the proposal positively. 3F writes this in a press release.
- There are many good initiatives and wishes from 3F included in the agreement, but I would particularly like to highlight the proposal for expanded access to school dormitories, which we must have turned into modern vocational colleges. In 3F, we believe that this is one of the keys to better well-being and retention. Also in the future with the EPX from 2030, says 3F federal secretary Søren Heisel.
Part of the proposal involves reducing the transport requirement for access to school dormitories from five quarters to three quarters, which will potentially benefit a large proportion of students.
- I believe that we can get more young people to start a vocational education if we create exciting and attractive vocational colleges. It is time, and a unique opportunity, to do away with the old-fashioned term "schoolhouse" and change the perception of them to be a modern, attractive and professional attraction for young people, says Søren Heisel.
3F believes that expanded access to vocational colleges can make vocational education more attractive and strengthen their professional level.
- With new vocational colleges, we can both offer strong youth environments and ensure that our educations have a high professional level, because we can gather more students around the vocational schools with the colleges. I think that modern and up-to-date vocational colleges fit perfectly into the framework we need to create for the EPX in the future. Perhaps more dormitories should also be built for the young people at the EPX, says Søren Heisel.
However, 3F would have liked to see the government also include a tripartite agreement on apprenticeships in the proposal.
- In 3F, we had hoped that the government would also include an initiative for a tripartite agreement on more apprenticeships in the package. The lack of apprenticeships is also part of the reason for the current high dropout rate in vocational education. And we are in no way reaching our common agreement on many more apprenticeships as it stands now. We hope that the government follows up the proposal with an invitation to a tripartite agreement on apprenticeships, concludes Søren Heisel.
