Among the most cited expert sources in Danish media, there are very few women. This is evident from a new study that DM Akademikerbladet has conducted for the sixth time. The study was conducted by the analysis company Retriever, formerly Infomedia, and is based on content from articles, radio and TV in Denmark.

On the list of the 50 most cited experts in 2025, there are only three female researchers. The highest-ranked woman is Associate Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at Lund University Isabel Bramsen, ranked 40th.

In addition, Professor of European Politics at the University of Copenhagen Marlene Wind is ranked 49th, while Professor of Municipal Politics at Roskilde University Eva Sørensen is ranked 50th. This is fewer than in 2024, when there were five women on the list.

DM leader Janne Gleerup finds it discouraging, she says in a news release from DM Akademikerbladet.

- There are a lot of talented and knowledgeable female researchers at universities, and the media should do their part to ensure diversity in their use of experts, so that a broad range of knowledge can come into play in the public, she says.

Defense experts dominate

At the top of the list is associate professor of defense and security policy at the Danish Defense Academy Peter Viggo Jakobsen. He tops the list for the second year in a row with 1361 appearances in articles in print and online as well as on radio and TV.

- I see the conflict in the Arctic mostly as a theater, but Ukraine, Gaza, Venezuela and the Danish military buildup have filled a lot and will continue to fill a lot, says Peter Viggo Jakobsen to DM Akademikerbladet.

Of the total of 50 names on the list, 20 of them are new. No one on the list has a minority background or is foreign. Defense and security policy researchers occupy a large part of the top of the list. But a number of researchers in both climate, the Arctic and elections can also be found on the list. For example, both Brian Vad Mathiesen, professor of energy planning at Aalborg University, and Sebastian Mernild, professor of climate change at the University of Southern Denmark, are in the top 20. Both have been cited more than 300 times.

According to DM Akademikerbladet, the high jumper is Arctic researcher at the Danish Institute for International Studies (Diis) Ulrik Pram Gad. He is number five on the list for 2025. He has previously told the magazine about the beginning of 2025, when he had gone to a summer house to work.

- Suddenly all the rumors started that Donald Trump Jr.'s plane was going to land in Nuuk. And from there I spoke to journalists practically every waking hour of the day for 14 days.

- It continued for a long time, and in the end I had to throw my phone into the water from the ferry when I went on a skiing holiday with my family, he told DM Akademikerbladet.
