The electricity grid will need to be expanded in many places in the coming years to meet future needs, when energy for, for example, transport and businesses increasingly comes from electricity instead of fossil fuels such as oil, petrol and gas.

To meet this increasing demand, the grid companies Cerius-Radius, which own the electricity grid in most of Eastern Denmark, and their joint operating company, Nexel, have just concluded a tender for the distribution transformers located in the grid companies' 10/0.4kV substations. These transformers are important nodes in transporting electricity to customers.

The winners of the tender were Koncar and Hans Følsgaard, who together will deliver transformers worth approx. DKK 90 million. DKK annually to the Eastern Danish electricity grid.

 - Hans Følsgaard and Koncar have submitted some transformers that have a very high energy efficiency, which can help keep the loss of power in the electricity grid down. And when we can minimize this grid loss, it is something that ultimately results in a more sustainable electricity grid – both financially and in terms of energy, says Frederik Dalgård Andersen, Planning Manager at Cerius-Radius.

Delighted with more suppliers

Tomas Christensen, Function Manager at Nexel, says that there was great interest in the tender, and he is pleased that more suppliers have submitted satisfactory offers.

- It was important for us that the tender was in the favor of more suppliers, as it gives us increased security of supply. If unforeseen complications arise with one, we can always draw a little more on the other. The transformers will be used both to upgrade our existing facilities and when we build new ones, he says.

The contract runs from 1 January 2025 to the end of 2029, after which there is a possibility of extension. This makes the contract worth approx. 450 million DKK.
