The future is knocking with the production of hydrogen and the storage of CO2. Here there will be a need for an infrastructure that can help promote the development. It is actually something relatively new that hydrogen has come into fashion.
- Hydrogen actually only really came on the scene in 2017, and one can ask oneself what is the driver for the development of hydrogen? The climate is the most important driver for hydrogen. Then it depends on when there will be an expansion of offshore wind, explains Per Jørgensen, who is the director of Rambøll to DI Energi's Green Gas Days.
And there has actually been a very concrete development since 2017.
- Today there are hydrogen-ready pipes, and they were not on the market in 2017. Now there are plans for laying hydrogen and CO2 pipes. They will come almost together and at the same time, so it is important that they do not get in each other's way, says Per Jørgensen.
He also gives an example of what will be the consequence of laying a pipeline in Denmark. Then there is also the possibility of laying another pipeline.
- This means, among other things, very large compressors will be placed around the country, which will equalize pressure differences. Offshore, a pipeline to the Netherlands is also being looked at, it is said.
Then a recent event is bad news for hydrogen development in Denmark
- We have had a setback with Everfuel, which has closed its filling stations for hydrogen cars. But it is important that we get started with laying a hydrogen pipeline. Otherwise, Germany will buy the hydrogen elsewhere. We know that Italy is ready to jump in otherwise. Therefore, the pipeline laying and production of hydrogen must get up and running, says Per Jørgensen.
