The coffers behind the Danish Parliament's climate and environmental policy are running low. But the need for new investments in the green transition, environment and nature is still urgent. This is the opinion of SF and a number of other parties, who therefore want to have the fund replenished.

- The Green Fund is the overdraft facility for the transition, and therefore we need to have it replenished so that we can launch more initiatives, says SF's political spokesperson, Signe Munk.

Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen (S) responds that he will call the parties behind the fund to negotiations about its future before the turn of the year.

- The government will call the parties behind the Green Fund to discussions during 2025, he says.

The Green Fund, totaling 53 billion kroner, was created by the then Social Democratic government in the summer of 2022 with the Liberal Party, SF, the Danish Social Democratic Party, the Green Party and the Conservatives.

900 million left

The fund's money is scraped together by setting aside money from the fiscal policy room each year, thus that a total of 53 billion kroner will be allocated to the fund by 2040.

Since then, the fund has financed a wide range of climate policy agreements ranging from climate adaptation to CO2 capture and storage. The Ministry of Finance states that there is now around 900 million kroner left in the green fund.

If SF has its way, the fund will be used to a greater extent in the future to green the Danish landscape with nature and biodiversity.

- When we look at the environmental area, we are afraid that efforts have stalled, says Signe Munk.

SF and De Radikale propose that three billion kroner be allocated to the fund each year. In the Radical Party, however, there is more focus on energy policy.

- Our primary focus is on getting rid of fossil fuels, says the party's climate spokesperson, Samira Nawa.

The Green Party also wants the fund to be filled up.

- We are about to negotiate a new climate law, in which we will set a new climate target. And we have a number of wishes to make our climate efforts even more ambitious towards 2035, says climate spokesperson Leila Stockmarr.
