For the first time ever, Danish exports of energy technology exceed DKK 100 billion. And if you look at both Danish exports of energy technology and services, the figure in 2024 will be DKK 123.4 billion, driven in particular by wind turbine technology and demand outside the EU.
An analysis conducted by, among others, the Danish Energy Agency, Green Power Denmark, Danish District Heating and the Danish Chamber of Commerce shows growth of over 15 percent in exports of energy technology. Wind turbines and related components make up the largest share with 48.3 percent of total exports and an increase of 36 percent. Exports outside the EU show a sharp increase of 28.6 percent, and therefore reach the largest measured export value to date, with a total export of DKK 55.9 billion.
- Danish energy companies show once again that they are green world leaders. They are at the forefront of the green transition at home and among our trading partners, and this makes Danish companies a strong player in the international market. It is a unique combination of technology, know-how and service that means that year after year we sell lots of green energy technology and create green transition around the world – we must protect that, says Troels Ranis, CEO of DI Energi, in a press release.
Exports to the USA and markets outside the EU are growing rapidly, and the Danish Energy Agency emphasizes the importance of cooperation with authorities, including the USA and Germany. At the same time, Green Power Denmark warns against challenges from Chinese state-supported companies and American tariff barriers.
- Companies that produce energy technology pay thousands of employees and create great value for society. But export companies – not least in the wind turbine industry – are in a challenging position right now. Chinese companies are taking over market shares with state support, and the USA has introduced high tariffs on imports. It is absolutely crucial that Denmark and Europe stand together and protect the industry that we have built up over decades – and that we will have to live on in the future, says Jan Hylleberg, Deputy CEO of Green Power Denmark.
However, exports experienced a particular decline in 2023. Compared to the export value in 2022 of 121.9 billion DKK, exports in 2024 have only increased by 1.2 percent. The large growth in 2024 is therefore mainly due to the fact that exports were particularly low in 2023.
