AALBORG: Aalborg Forsyning has just given a handshake that they will make their business area, Norbis Park, available to realize the plans for green transition of aviation.

Together with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and SAS, Copenhagen Airport, they will promote Danish production of sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF) and the green transition of aviation.

And in this connection, Aalborg Forsyning, which is owned by Aalborg Municipality, will play a crucial role - because the parties behind the agreement all agree that they will support the Fjord PtX project in Norbis Park, as this is where the plans will be realized.

- I am very pleased that the most important players in Danish aviation, together with CIP, agree that Fjord PtX, with its location in Norbis Park, is the ideal place to fulfill the Danish ambitions for the production of sustainable aviation fuel, says Søren Gais Kjeldsen, CEO of Aalborg Forsyning and adds:

- It will have a major impact on the development of both Aalborg and Aalborg Forsyning. Fjord PtX will deliver a large amount of surplus heat, which will benefit our district heating customers, and the project will also attract new investments to the region and create jobs.

What is Fjord PtX?
  • Fjord PtX will be one of Scandinavia's largest eSAF plants and will be located in Aalborg Forsyning's business area just north of Aalborg - Norbis Park.
  • The plant will produce up to 110 million liters of aviation fuel annually. In comparison, the annual domestic flights in Denmark require approximately 30 million liters of fuel, while a total of approximately 1,200 million liters are used. liters of fuel on flights in and out of Denmark.
  • Fjord PtX will contain an approximately 400 MW electrolysis plant that converts electricity from renewable energy sources into hydrogen, which in combination with captured CO2 is converted into aviation fuel.
  • The plant will annually recycle up to 330,000 tons of CO2, which corresponds to the annual emissions from 23,000 households. The plan is for construction of Fjord PtX to begin in 2026, and for the plant to be completed in 2029.
  • Aalborg Forsyning will annually consume surplus heat from the plant, corresponding to at least 10 percent of the heat consumption in Aalborg. In addition, the project is expected to create 2,000 jobs during the construction phase and 200 full-time positions when the facility is completed.
