This week marked an important step for the Danish hydrogen industry.
In Herning, Hydrogen Industry member Topsoe officially inaugurated its new, high-tech factory for the production of SOEC electrolysis plants.
The plant will have a capacity of 500 MW, but is designed to be expandable up to 5 GW in line with the increasing demand for green hydrogen.
The factory will thus not only be a cornerstone of Topsøe's own growth strategy, but also a central contribution to Denmark's and Europe's ambitions to accelerate the green transition through hydrogen technology. And that pleases Topsoe's CEO Roeland Baan:
"The inauguration of this plant is not only an important milestone for us, but also a game-changer for the green transition. It strengthens Europe's competitiveness in clean technologies and at the same time contributes to reducing industry's CO2 emissions," he writes on his LinkedIn.
The director of the hydrogen industry, Tejs Laustsen Jensen, agrees:
- It emphasizes that we can in Europe. Cutting edge climate technology does not have to (in fact, should not!) come from China. On the contrary, it is crucial for Europe's strategic position, independence and security of supply that we ourselves have control over precisely critical technologies and value chains, such as the one that is now emerging from Herning, he says.
