The RelyOn Nutec group is one of the world's largest providers of safety courses and training. The company's Scandinavian director Claus Nexø Hansen has every reason to be happy.
- We had the best year ever in 2022, and the first quarter of this year looks even better, the director tells DOI.dk at the WindEurope Annual Event 2023 in the Bella Centret.
There is no sign of a slowdown or standstill here, but the recruitment situation for companies is something that RelyOn Nutec can help with.
- Our customers are looking at how they can get skilled workers in. We are talking about electricians and mechanics. But there are many who want the same people in, we are talking about wind, oil-gas and PtX starting soon, says Claus Nexø Hansen.
Upskilling
In Europe, there are two countries that are doing something that will help the industries in need.
- Belgium and Norway are working on a specialized training course, which is a form of cable puller. These are people who will only pull the cables, while an electrician will then come and connect the cables, he explains about a short five-day training course.
And the employees do not only come from Denmark.
- We see a lot of super talented people from Poland as well as Baltics, Germans and Hungarians, explains Claus Nexø Hansen and offers a suggestion for another country where the craftsmen for the green transition could come from:
- We have had a delegation visit from the Philippines. There are already an incredible number of Filipinos on ships in the maritime world. They are used to traveling to work already. Perhaps we will see them as cable pullers in the future.
Special courses on the way
More green electricity also means many more volts, and this is something that requires special training.
- As the industry grows, we will run high voltage courses. That is why we have also bought into Thomson Bridge, which is already doing training in this area, says Claus Nexø Hansen.
RelyOn Nutec is already running the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) Basic Technical Training, which takes course participants through the areas of mechanics, hydraulics and electronics in five days.
- We will come up with a massive superstructure that will be started up here in the second quarter of this year. We will start in Esbjerg and roll out from there, and the course can take up to two to three months. They will be tailored to the needs of customers at our Renewables Academy. We are talking about electrical courses, high-end safety training together with a course in safety leadership, says Claus Nexø Hansen.
RelyOn Nutec sees a need to retrain managers, for example for offshore.
- These may be managers who come from other industries. We teach them what the difference is in standing 200 km out in the North Sea, where you can't just call for help. It will take place with practical training, e-learning, simulators, and virtual training. It is a course that we know there is a need for, says Claus Nexø Hansen.
Esbjerg is the hotspot
In a Danish comparison, there is no doubt where the courses will take place.
- Esbjerg is the hotspot. It is the hub in Denmark, although both the UK and Germany are larger in terms of training, explains Claus Nexø Hansen.
However, the director has also expanded on Bornholm, although it has actually only been communicated on the rocky island.
- We have a collaboration with Campus Bornholm, where we run GWO Basic Safety Training. And when there are students, we will create a training center on Bornholm, explains Claus Nexø Hansen.
