For Morten Andersen, the world looked different in 2014, after 30 years of work as a carpenter and with worn-out hips. The intermediate station as a janitor at a school was not the right thing either. But the dream of a life as an entrepreneur with commercial buildings was already present together with his brother, Michael Martin Andersen. The springboard came suddenly.
- I saw a bankrupt dildo factory in Tappenøje. We bid on it and got it for DKK 100,000, says Morten Andersen with a smile.
Today, the defunct dildo factory houses a gym, a nail technician and a physiotherapist, and the building is a successful part of the commercial lettings.
This is how the entrepreneurial adventure began, and it quickly took off.
- That was the starting shot, and we quickly got blood on our teeth. Already the following year, we got the opportunity to buy Marina Park here in Klintholm Harbour, says Morten Andersen, who is today CEO of MMA Offshore A/S - Onshore Services, while his brother is chairman of the board.
When you ask him today what it takes to get started as an entrepreneur, he doesn't hesitate for a second.
- You have to seize the chance when it is there and jump into it. And then you have to expect long working days, he explains.
Marina Park Cabins, as the former Danland hotel is called today, led to the opportunity to create onshore facilities for Baltic 2. It is a German offshore wind farm near Denmark's largest offshore wind farm, Kriegers Flak. Baltic 2 is approximately 37 km from Klintholm Harbour, and it is closer than any German port. That is why the offshore wind farm is serviced today by German employees from Klintholm Havn. MMA Offshore A/S - Onshore Services today owns both the service station and the hotel for the employees.
The reason why it has come to fruition at all is largely due to the brothers' qualifications. The carpentry qualifications have made it possible for Morten Andersen to design the new hotel himself, and his brother's German skills have been important for the negotiations with the German energy company EnBW Energie Baden-Württemberg AG. Michael Martin Andersen has lived near Frankfurt for 40 years.
- You must know the language and culture if you are to work for a foreign company. And then you have to know that these are long processes, says Morten Andersen, who also reveals that MMA Offshore A/S - Onshore Services has had inquiries from France about a similar setup, but here the company chose to decline due to, among other things, the distance and the linguistic and cultural barriers.
