Port director on Russian ships: - This is something we take very seriously

Two Russian ships, Sergey Balk and SB-123, are currently cruising around Kattegat off Grenaa and south of Anholt. This can be seen on live maps from sites such as Vessilfinder.com and Marinetraffic.com. It is unknown what the ships are doing, but it is clear that they have been circling the same area for more than a day.

At Grenaa Port, CEO Henrik Carstensen says that they are closely monitoring what the ships in question are doing. Simply because they are from Russia.

- We made a decision in principle the day after the invasion of Ukraine. It was that we do not accept Russian ships or their cargo in the Port of Grenaa, and that decision still stands, says Henrik Carstensen to TV2 Østjylland.

- This is something we take very seriously, and the two specific ships here will not come to port with us if they request it. They will definitely be rejected.

Special focus

Ship traffic in the Kattegat is always monitored from the port of Grenaa, but there is a special focus on Russian ships, and that focus has not diminished after there have been several cases of possible sabotage in, among other things, the Baltic Sea's data cables.

Question: What do you do specifically if they approach the port?

- Then we will contact the authorities. I don't think that will happen, and it hasn't happened so far during the war, but the procedure is that we activate the authorities. Right now we are just following their movements via our maritime surveillance, says Henrik Carstensen.

According to the Swedish media TV4, the Swedish Coast Guard has informed the Danish authorities about the ships. It is not prohibited for Russian ships to sail through Danish waters.
