Green Power Denmark welcomes DI plans

Green Power Denmark has long been pushing for the government and the Parliament to launch a plan for the electrification of society, which can get fossil fuels out of our consumption. Therefore, the green business organization welcomes the fact that Dansk Industri is now also joining the field.

- We put the need for the electrification of Denmark and Europe at the center of our Summit in May, and we have, among other things, proposed a lowering of the electricity tax in our own draft finance law. That is why we are very happy that Danish Industry is joining the debate on faster electrification, says Kristian Jensen, CEO. director of Green Power Denmark.

Electricity consumption must multiply so that Denmark can achieve its climate target and Power-to-X ambitions. In 2030, it must rise to 94 terrawatt-hours.

But an analysis by Green Power Denmark shows that the consumption of electricity in Denmark has only increased by one terawatt hour since a broad majority in the Folketing in 2020 set the climate target. This corresponds to two percent of the necessary direct and indirect electrification up to 2030. That is why Green Power Denmark last year came up with a plan for how the electrification of transport, heating and industry can speed up.

- We need a political electrification plan so that we can replace fossil fuels with green electricity in our consumption. In this way, we can lower energy prices, reduce CO2 emissions, make ourselves independent of rogues like Putin and make our companies more competitive, says Kristian Jensen.

Green Power Denmark's report shows that it is particularly lagging in adding green power to the processes in Danish companies in the industry.

- There is no doubt that many companies would like to electrify. But more people hesitate to take the step, as it can be a big financial investment here and now. Therefore, politicians should help and encourage companies to make the green and electric choice, says Kristian Jensen.
