There is an imbalance in trade between the US and the EU, says Donald Trump, who is again threatening tariffs on goods from the EU.

EU goods will be subject to tariffs in the United States. This was emphasized by US President Donald Trump on Wednesday night during a press conference from the White House.

- The European Union treats us very, very badly, the president said, according to the AFP news agency.

- So they will be subject to tariffs. That is the only way to achieve justice, he added.

Trump also said that he believes there is a worrying imbalance in the trade that takes place between the United States and the EU as well as a number of other countries.

Since Trump won the US presidential election in November, he has repeatedly threatened to increase tariffs on foreign goods - including European ones.

When Trump was sworn in as US president on Monday, he did not make any specific threats against foreign trading partners in his inauguration speech. But he said he would "immediately begin an overhaul of our trading system to protect American workers and families." In the speech, he proposed tariffs on Canada and Mexico starting February 1 if the two countries bordering the United States do not tighten their border controls to stop migrants and drugs from entering the United States. No deadline for the EU Europe, however, missed a similar deadline. Trump did not mention the size of any tariffs on European goods in his inauguration speech. He did not do so on Wednesday night either. Trump said two weeks before he was inaugurated as president that he was considering imposing special tariffs on Danish goods if Denmark did not agree to sell Greenland to the United States. The EU has signaled its readiness to defend its economic interests after Trump was inaugurated as president. This was stated by the EU's Economic Affairs Commissioner, Valdis Dombrovskis, on Monday evening.

In several EU countries it is feared that a new US tariff on European goods could cost both exports and jobs.
