The Ørsted share closed on Monday at its lowest price ever at 217.10. This is the first time since the IPO in 2016 that the share has fallen below its then-listing price of 235.

At the same time, the share fell almost 30 percent, which is the largest drop for Ørsted shares in a single day. According to the media outlet MarketWire, this means that Ørsted shareholders have lost a total of 38.5 billion kroner in one day.

Monday's decline comes after the company announced a share issue of 60 billion kroner. Ørsted has been forced to ask shareholders for more money because the company is facing major investments in the coming years.

The expectation was that part of the financing would be found by selling off ownership shares in the American offshore wind farm Sunrise Wind, which is being built.

However, US President Donald Trump has created so much uncertainty about renewable energy in the US that this has not been successful. The share increase in Ørsted is taking place by giving existing shareholders preferential rights to buy the new shares in the company. The Danish state has 50.1 percent of the shares and has already agreed to invest around 30 billion kroner.

Monday's announcement of the share increase came after rumors that began to circulate on Friday evening, according to MarketWire. Rumors were that Ørsted would raise capital due to difficult market conditions.

According to Mads Zink, chief trader at Danske Bank, there has been speculation for some time that Ørsted would end up in a situation where it was necessary to raise additional capital.

- In a way, it is good to get it over with at Ørsted, because there has been some speculation about it, he tells MarketWire.

On Monday, Ørsted also released its accounts for the first half of 2025. In the period, the company had sales of 37.8 billion kroner - an increase of 11 percent compared to the same period last year.

There was also progress in the company's earnings after tax, which ended at 8.2 billion kroner. In the same period in 2024, Ørsted had earnings of 931 million kroner due to large write-downs.
