"The green transition has stalled. This is due to two persistent myths: that we should be fully engaged in it, and that it should be difficult. Both are lies."

This is what Martin Lidegaard, chairman of the Danish Social Liberal Party, writes in an article published in Politiken. According to him, we are far from the actions required to achieve the climate goals, and the political leadership bears the responsibility.

"Historically, Denmark has done better than others in terms of energy efficiency and renewable energy. That is why we may be able to achieve a 70 percent CO2 reduction on Danish soil by 2030. But today it is effectively at a standstill - or going in the wrong direction."

Lidegaard criticizes, among other things, failed initiatives within renewable energy and points to, among other things, on political greed, as one of the reasons..

"We have just lost the tender for 3 GW of offshore wind on the floor because the government would not guarantee a hydrogen pipeline to the German border, which the Germans have long since decided on their side, and which would give the installer security for being able to use and sell the green electricity. In addition, new stumbling blocks have been stretched for the bidders by insisting on state co-ownership, which, all other things being equal, increases uncertainty and complexity for investors. They simply became too greedy when we experienced getting free energy for the first time with the Thor park. The story of the wife with the eggs all over again."

He also points to "absurd" political initiatives such as the new aviation tax.

"Take, for example, the new aviation tax, which was allegedly set so low for reasons of competitiveness, and where most of the proceeds go to a new elderly check because it was a shame for pensioners that they had to pay 20 kroner extra for a trip to Mallorca."

At the same time, Lidegaard denies that a green transition is impossible.

- The truth is that a full green transition of our society and our lives is neither expensive nor difficult when compared to many other major challenges of the time.

He concludes with an appeal to his colleagues in the Folketing.

- At the moment, the ship is sailing directly towards the iceberg. Nothing prevents us from changing course, but will we? Is the government even present on the bridge?
