The government will allocate 850 million DKK in next year's finance bill to, among other things, promote the construction of solar cells and wind turbines on land. Green Power Denmark describes the initiative as necessary, as the expansion has largely come to a standstill.
- The wait for a decision and for more competitive and green energy is too long. Therefore, it is gratifying that the government is now putting action behind the words. I would like to thank you for that. There is a great need for initiatives that clear the way for challenges and ensure that the construction of wind turbines and solar cells progresses more quickly, says Kristian Jensen, CEO of Green Power Denmark, in a press release.
The business organization emphasizes that wind turbines in particular have had difficult times in recent years. In both 2023 and 2024, only 13 wind turbines were built on land, and this year only seven new ones are expected.
The organization points out that several barriers must be removed if green electricity is to replace oil and gas. It must be easier for both companies and citizens to phase out black energy, and cheap electricity must be available in sufficient quantities.
Comes with recommendations
Green Power Denmark recommends that the government and the Folketing reduce the costs for installers of solar cells and wind turbines, including the costs for the electricity grid. In addition, old land reservations must be cleared out, the processing time must be reduced, and Energinet must be able to lay cables in the ground more quickly.
A significant barrier is Energinet's delay in connecting new large consumers to the electricity grid - including companies that want to electrify their production or produce PtX fuels
- The projects are on hold. When they are connected to the electricity grid, they will contribute to the green transition. At the same time, it supports investments in solar cells and wind turbines, when companies and district heating plants replace expensive natural gas with electricity from solar cells and wind turbines. With the government's proposal, we are hopefully taking a good step on the way, says Kristian Jensen.
The government also proposes to lower the electricity tax to the EU's minimum level of 0.8 øre per kWh - an initiative that the organization sees as financial help for both citizens and the green transition.
