A cable break in the Baltic Sea in January was not sabotage. Instead, a combination of weather conditions and defective equipment on the ship involved is being pointed to as the cause. This is stated by a Swedish prosecutor from the national security unit, according to the Swedish news agency TT.

- The investigation clearly shows that this is not a case of sabotage, says prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist.

After discovering the cable break, the Swedish authorities seized a ship that they suspected of being behind it. The ship called "Vezhen" is Bulgarian, but sails under the Maltese flag,

According to Ljungqvist, the seized ship is responsible for the cable break, but according to him there are no signs of sabotage. This means that the "Vezhen" and its crew can leave Karlskrona in Sweden, where it has been in port for over a week, "as soon as they see fit", the prosecutor tells TT.

Aleksandar Kalchev, who is co-owner of the ship, has previously admitted to Reuters that the ship may be responsible for the fact that a cable lying on the bottom of the Baltic Sea was torn. However, he stressed that it was not done intentionally. According to Kalchev, the ship's anchor fell to the seabed as a result of strong winds.
