Despite prequalification: Ørsted will not apply for the CCS pool's billions

Ørsted Bioenergy & Thermal Power A/S was among ten prequalified companies that can participate in the tender to receive support of 28.7 billion DKK from the state CCS fund. Here, they had submitted a bid with a project that would capture up to 500,000 tons of CO2 annually at the Skærbæk power plant in Fredericia.

However, Ørsted will not send a final application to the fund before the tender deadline in December. This is stated by the company in its half-year financial statements, which were published on Monday, and this was also confirmed to the media Energy Supply. Ørsted will instead focus on European offshore wind.

"We are not participating in the ongoing CCS tender, as we have decided that we will not participate in further CCS tenders in the near future. The decision is in line with our sharpening and narrowing of our technology focus with a primary emphasis on offshore wind," says Ole Thomsen, CEO of Ørsted's power plant business, in a written comment to the media.
